Q:

What is Raising Arrows Co-Op?

A:

Raising Arrows Co-op is a cooperative learning opportunity for children Pre-K through 12th grade which meets every week from September - May with various weeks off. The mission of Raising Arrows Co-op is to support and assist parents in the training of their children by providing classes to supplement and enrich their education in a class environment. Because this is a cooperative effort, there will be a pooling of our resources and skills. Everyone must contribute so that this co-op can be a success. One parent must be present every hour that their children are attending classes.

This is a ministry cooperative by families to families. Prices of classes are determined by the costs of supplies alone. Teachers will be giving of their time. We count on the active involvement of every family member to make co-op day a success!

Raising Arrows' role is to encourage the parent, through support, assistance, co-op classes and relationship building. We do not function as a school.  Some parents will teach using a curriculum and some will create classes using many different sources.

Please Note: Although we offer pre-school classes, all Raising Arrows Co-op families must have at least one school age child participating in the classes who must be at least three years old by the first day of Co-Op.

Q:

How often does Raising Arrows meet and where?

A:

Raising Arrows Co-op meets every week from September - May in Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana.

Please contact a Board Member for more information about meeting times and locations.

Q:

What is the cost to join Raising Arrows?

A:

Active Member: $50 family registration fee plus class fees. Each child’s class fees are different, depending on the class being offered that semester.

Associate Member: $50 family registration fee.

The family registration fee is a per semester fee and covers our group insurance on all activities, building use, party rentals, website, and community service projects.

Q:

What is the difference between an Active and Associate Member?

A:

Active Members are families who attend our weekly Co-Op classes and can participate in all additional activities and clubs.

Associate Members are families who either did not meet the registration dates for classes or who do not wish to attend the weekly classes offered. These families can participate in all out of class activities such as, clubs, field trips, and community service projects. These families will also have access to the website to register for classes in the future or any extracurricular activity available.

Q:

Do I have to stay for all class periods?

A:

No!  You only need to stay and participate during the time your child is in class. If your child is only interested in the 2nd hour of classes, please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the class.

Q:

What do I do with my child, who is under 3 years old?

A:

We have a toddler and infant nursery for children who are too young to take classes. When you register for class, you must also register for the nursery. If you have a child in the nursery, you are required to help there for at least one class period.

Please note: PreK classes are for children who will be 3 before the semester begins and are potty trained.

Q:

How am I expected to help if I take part in Raising Arrows Co-Op?

A:

Since this is a true co-op and is meant to be a pooling of talents, we need everyone's help. When you register for classes, you will be asked to serve in some way. For example: If you do not feel led to teach you can sign on as a teachers helper which would involve helping the teacher keep order, taking young children to the restrooms, helping with crafts, etc.. Every family is also expected to be scheduled for set-up or clean-up which in most cases you are scheduled for this once or twice a semester. Exemptions from this is board approved.

Q:

Do I have to be present the entire time my children are at Co-op?

A:

Yes. In order for your child to participate, you must be present and helping the entire time your child is at co-op. You may not drop your child off, or leave them in the care of another parent who is already at the co-op. If you cannot be present for some reason, you may substitute someone in your place who will fulfill your responsibilities. You can use a grandparent or adult (over 18) sibling. This person stands in your place, following your schedule.

Q:

What should I do if we have to be absent from Co-Op?

A:

If you can't make it to co-ops, you will need to advise a board member prior to 8:00 a.m. Every person is important and teachers need to know if they need to find extra help if you will be missing.

If you have set-up or cleaning duties, you need to find someone to switch with and then call the cleaning coordinator to let her know.

Q:

What extracurricular activities does Raising Arrows offer?

A:
