FAQs

Q:

What is Raising Arrows Co-Op?

A:

Raising Arrows Co-op is a cooperative learning opportunity for children Pre-K through 12th grade which meets every week from September - May with various weeks off. The mission of Raising Arrows Co-op is to support and assist parents in the training of their children by providing classes to supplement and enrich their education in a class environment. Because this is a cooperative effort, there will be a pooling of our resources and skills. Everyone must contribute so that this co-op can be a success. One parent must be present every hour that their children are attending classes.

This is a ministry cooperative by families to families. Prices of classes are determined by the costs of supplies alone. Teachers will be giving of their time. We count on the active involvement of every family member to make co-op day a success!

Raising Arrows' role is to encourage the parent, through support, assistance, co-op classes and relationship building. We do not function as a school.  Some parents will teach using a curriculum and some will create classes using many different sources.

Please Note: Although we offer pre-school classes, all Raising Arrows Co-op families must have at least one school age child participating in the classes who must be at least 5 years old by the first day of Co-Op.

Q:

How often does Raising Arrows meet and where?

A:

Raising Arrows Co-op meets every week from September - May in Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana.

We also offer Family Fun Days, Field Trips, Dances and other age group activities.

Please contact a Board Member for more information about meeting times and locations.

Q:

What is the cost to join Raising Arrows?

A:

Active Member: $60 family registration fee plus class fees for Active Members. Each child’s class fees are different, depending on the class being offered that semester.

Associate Member: $60 family registration fee.

The family registration fee is a per semester fee and covers our group insurance on all activities, building use, party rentals, website, and community service projects. If paying via Paypal, there will be a $5 service fee added.

Q:

What is the difference between an Active and Associate Member?

A:

Active Members are families who attend our weekly Co-Op classes and can participate in all additional activities and clubs.

Associate Members are families who either did not meet the registration dates for classes or who do not wish to attend the weekly classes offered. We ask that these families utilize their membership and participate in as many Associate activities as possible. As an Associate, we ask that your family attend, participate and help with the planning of at least 2 of the 4 Family Fun Days. We ask that on the Family Days you attend, you register as clean up crew at least one of those days. We also ask that you take advantage of as many of the field trips, age group events and activities as possible. Our goal is to make the most of every event and have as many dedicated members of our Raising Arrows family, attending and helping as possible.

Q:

Do I have to stay for all class periods?

A:

We ask that our Active members utilize both class hours that are available to them and their children. With limited member numbers, we want our Active members to make the most of thier membership. Please contact the Board if there will be a change in attendance, or you have special circumstances that prevent you from attending both hours.

Q:

What do I do with my child, who is under 5 years old?

A:

We have a toddler, infant nursery and 3/4 PreK for children who are too young to take classes. When you register for class, you must also register for the nursery and PreK. If you have a child in the nursery, you are required to help there for at least one class period.

Please note: Classes are for children who will be 5 before the semester begins.

Q:

How am I expected to help if I take part in Raising Arrows Co-Op?

A:

Since this is a true co-op and is meant to be a pooling of talents, we need everyone's help. When you register for classes, you will be asked to serve in some way. For example: If you do not feel led to teach you can sign on as a teachers helper which would involve helping the teacher keep order, taking young children to the restrooms, helping with crafts, etc.. Every family is also expected to be scheduled for set-up or clean-up which in most cases you are scheduled for this once or twice a semester. Exemptions from this is board approved.

Q:

Do I have to be present the entire time my children are at Co-op?

A:

Yes. In order for your child to participate, you must be present and helping the entire time your child is at co-op. You may not drop your child off, or leave them in the care of another parent who is already at the co-op. If you cannot be present for some reason, you may substitute someone in your place who will fulfill your responsibilities. You can use a grandparent or adult (over 18) sibling. This person stands in your place, following your schedule.

Q:

What should I do if we have to be absent from Co-Op?

A:

If you can't make it to co-ops, you will need to advise a board member prior to 8:00 a.m. Every person is important and teachers need to know if they need to find extra help if you will be missing.

If you have set-up or cleaning duties, you need to find someone to switch with and then call the cleaning coordinator to let her know.

Q:

What extracurricular activities does Raising Arrows offer?

A:

Raising Arrows is currently offering opportunities for our members to participate in:

  • At least one group field trip planned each month.
  • Community service projects, where we have an opportunity to show our children the love of Christ by serving others. This may include serving meals at the local food pantry, hosting a Veteran event, visiting nursing homes or making donations to the animal shelter.
  • Regular park days and field trips, where the children are able to fellowship together after class, play and have fun. We often have crazy dress days or a guest speaker for these events such as, bee keepers or a dog trainer.

  • Science Fair
  • Art Gala

Raising Arrows is a growing Co-Op and we are always adding new, fun, and exciting opportunities both children and parents can participate.  Please check in often to stay up to date on new adventures!
